What’s the difference between Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, and aftershave?

Perfume concentration refers to the percentage of essential oils in a fragrance relative to its alcohol or water content. The higher the concentration, the longer the fragrance typically lasts. As a general rule:

  • Eau Fraiche / Aftershave : Lightest concentration (1-3% essential oils), lasts up to 2 hours, perfect for hot days.
  • Eau de Cologne (EDC) : Slightly stronger (2-4% essential oils), fresh and light, lasts 1-4 hours.
  • Eau de Toilette (EDT) : A moderate concentration (5-15%), lasts 3-6 hours, great for daily use.
  • Eau de Parfum (EDP) : Stronger (15-20%), lasts 6-8 hours, versatile and ideal for special occasions.
  • Parfum (Pure Perfume) : Highest concentration (20-40%), long-lasting (8-16 hours), luxurious and often expensive.

Each concentration offers different benefits depending on your preferences and the occasion.

How often should I reapply my fragrance?

The frequency of reapplication depends on the concentration of the fragrance and your activity level.

  • Eau Fraiche or Eau de Cologne : Reapply every 2-4 hours as these are lighter scents.
  • Eau de Toilette : Usually lasts 3-6 hours, so you may want to reapply once during the day.
  • Eau de Parfum or Parfum : These are long-lasting and often don’t need reapplication, but a touch up after 6-8 hours may be ideal for lengthy events and occasions.

Apply to pulse points such as your wrists and neck for optimal performance, and avoid overapplying to prevent overwhelming others.
