Guerlain Description

Experience Guerlain's luxury beauty collection, featuring fragrances, skincare, and cosmetics from one of the world's oldest perfume houses. Guerlain was founded in 1828 when Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain, a perfumer and chemist, opened his first boutique at 42 Rue de Rivoli in Paris. Initially selling scented soaps, cosmetic products, and bespoke fragrances for Parisian high society, the house quickly gained recognition among European elite. In 1853, Pierre-François created Eau de Cologne Impériale for Empress Eugénie to celebrate her marriage to Emperor Napoleon III, earning him the title of His Majesty's Official Perfumer and establishing Guerlain's reputation across European courts.

Following Pierre-François's death in 1864, the house passed to his sons Aimé and Gabriel Guerlain, with Aimé becoming master perfumer and creating the legendary Guerlinade accord, a combination of bergamot, rose, jasmine, tonka bean, iris, and vanilla that became the house signature. His most famous creation was Jicky in 1889, among the first fragrances to use synthetic ingredients alongside natural extracts. The third generation brought Jacques Guerlain, who created enduring classics including L'Heure Bleue (1912), Mitsouko (1919), and Shalimar (1925). Jean-Paul Guerlain, the fourth generation perfumer, composed Vétiver (1959), Habit Rouge (1965), and Samsara (1989) before retiring in 2002, ending the family succession as master perfumer.

Since Guerlain has created over 800 fragrances and pioneered numerous beauty innovations, including creating one of the first serums in 1950 with Emulsion d'Ambroisie. The house was acquired by LVMH in 1994 and now offers comprehensive collections across fragrance, skincare including the Abeille Royale line, and makeup products such as Terracotta bronzers and Météorites pearls. The iconic bee motif, first used on the Eau de Cologne Impériale bottle as a symbol of the French empire, remains central to Guerlain's identity and appears throughout the brand's modern products.
